October Round-up: Nurturing Growth 🌱
October has been a month full of connection, celebration and community spirit for our Nurturing Growth group. We’ve shared so many uplifting moments together, and it’s been wonderful to see everyone embracing the season with warmth and enthusiasm.
We started the month by marking International Day of Older Persons, celebrating this year’s theme of connection. We welcomed visitors from local services and organisations and enjoyed a morning filled with singing, laughter and great conversations.
Later in the month, we took a peaceful walk to Holy Trinity Church, where we lit candles in memory of loved ones and admired Enid’s stunning harvest flower arrangements. We were also delighted to have David Weale join us, teaching the group some fun new signing to go along with our songs. Thank you to everyone who supported the session and helped make it so meaningful.
We then enjoyed an energising day with Mel from Beyondly and our founder Charlotte as we strolled through Skipton Woods, taking in the autumn colours. Afterwards, we returned for singing, yoga and our new seated dance class — with 10 people taking part in a brilliant workout. The laughter and energy in the room was infectious!
Our next week took us along the canal, a lovely route for fresh air and gentle movement. Emily from Talking Therapies joined us to share information about the valuable support they offer, and we also welcomed Citizens Advice for a helpful session. We finished the morning by practicing our very first Christmas song of the year – getting ready for our upcoming visits in the community.
To close the month, we enjoyed a wonderful walk to Aireville Park, followed by our usual singing session where we continued rehearsing Christmas carols. It was also a privilege to celebrate Cath’s incredible achievement of being sober for a full year. Her courage, honesty and kindness were truly inspiring, and it was lovely to mark the moment together with cake and plenty of support from the group.
Thank you to everyone who joined in, contributed, or supported us throughout October. Your presence makes these sessions what they are – uplifting, welcoming, and full of connection. Here’s to a joyful November ahead!
