Jean’s Journeys: Communication Matters

Today, Jean, SSIA’s wheelchair accessible vehicle, took Sam and his support worker Joanne to an event in Leeds by Communication Matters, an organisation that supports people who find it hard to communicate because they have little or no clear speech.

Same goes every year and has been doing so for 19 years! But this year he needed a little help with transport from Jean.

Joanne used to support Jean McHale, our van’s namesake so it was lovely to hear stories about how wonderful Jean was and Joanne was delighted we had named our van after her.

If you see Jean about town, give her a wave. Also, keep an eye on our website and social media for more updates on ‘Jean’s Journeys’ and see more pictures in our Jean’s Journeys gallery.

Can you help us keep Jean going?

We need to continue raising funds as we have numerous ongoing running costs. For example; insurance, inspection & maintenance, tyres and even volunteer drive training and accreditation! If you can help, please donate via our Paypal here: https://www.paypal.com/paypalme/SkiptonAction using ‘Jean’ as a reference.

Or if you’d like to help us with our transport service by becoming a volunteer driver, please email recruitment@ssia.org.uk
