Dear Charlotte,
I wanted to write to you personally to say a massive and heartfelt thank you to all at Skipton Step Into Action for the work you are doing as part of the community support organisation network for the Skipton area. We are facing unprecedented challenges across the world as a result of Covid-19, but I look at North Yorkshire with pride as communities meet this head on with gusto and generosity. I’m moved by the countless examples of neighbours looking out for each other and inspired by the army of volunteers forming small groups and networks in their towns and villages.
At the heart of that response are the community support organisations and the local partners they are working alongside. Frankly, the speed and “can-do” attitude that you and others have displayed to ensure nobody in North Yorkshire feels along or is left without food and medicines is astounding. If there’s one positive to come from this crisis, it’s that incredible response.
Lockdown is here for some time yet and when it starts to lift it will be gradual. We must all therefore look at how we continue to support the most vulnerable and bolster the communities in North Yorkshire.
We know that North Yorkshire folk are resilient, generous and will go the extra mile to help people in their local communities but we should never take that kindness for granted. I give you my commitment that the County Council will continue to offer its support to you and the communities we serve, so please do not hesitate to raise any issues with your Stronger Communities lead or indeed with me should you wish.
I would be extremely grateful if you could pass on my thanks and utmost admiration to all the staff and volunteers you are working with.
Yours sincerely,
Councillor Carl Les
